Conscious Eating
Conscious eating is when an individual stands up and says no more to an eating disorder. An eating disorder affects an individual in so many ways. An individual who is suffering from an eating disorder may suffer from psychological trauma or low self esteem or poor body image. These three things can affect a person’s life in a negative way. For example if an individual who suffers from an eating disorder has low self esteem then this may cause that individual to limit themselves. Instead of reaching for a better job or a healthier personal relationship that individual may end up stuck in a dead end situation. Conscious eating is the solution to an eating disorder.
Conscious eating is when someone who suffers from an eating disorder decides to become conscious of what, when and how much they are eating. Before someone who was grappling with compulsive eating disorder may have ate a gallon of ice cream or a package of cookies without even thinking twice which is the opposite of conscious eating. The compulsive overeater would be looking towards food for a short fix to an emotional problem. Conscious eating looks towards food as a resource of nutrients and vitamins.
Someone who practices conscious eating will set aside the cookies and ice cream. Instead the conscious eater will ask themselves if they are hungry or just eating for emotional reasons. If the conscious eater is hungry then they may reach for fruit or vegetables to continue conscious eating. Conscious eating is about awareness and choosing healthy alternatives.
In order to become involved in conscious eating you must change your behavior and you way of thinking. Conscious eating is a lifestyle. Before you reach for something sugary pick up a healthy alternative such as an apple or a granola bar or carrot sticks as part of conscious eating. There are so many healthy foods that you can overeat without feeling guilty at all. If you are having trouble stopping the episodes of overeating then reach for good foods. This is one may that you can practice conscious eating.
Also, conscious eating is when an individual realizes why they eat. An individual who is involved with conscious eating will know that they are eating because of hunger and not because of emotions. If you want to figure out why you overeat you may want to seek professional help or keep a food diary that records when you eat. In the food diary record your thoughts and emotions that occurred before and after you eat. Conscious eating is a healthy lifestyle that encourages good eating habits over the course of a lifetime.
