Emotional Overeating


There are millions of people who are involved in a negative type of behavior that is known as emotional overeating. Many people, who practice emotional overeating as an attempt to numb an unpleasant feeling with food, Emotional overeating is a disorder where one will eat when anger, bored, stressed out or lonely. Emotional overeating is a compulsive type of behavior that is considered to be an eating disorder. Eating has become an addiction for millions of people. Experts believe that emotional overeating is an addiction that is very similar to drug or alcohol addiction. Emotional overeating is a disorder that can be a challenge to overcome.An emotional overeater will eat without even knowing what they are doing. Another type of emotional overeating is one who eats a food because of a carving. Some people will eat a cheeseburger or bag of potato chips because of a carving. This is a type of emotional overeating.

It is predicted that obesity due to disorders like emotional overeating will soon become the number on silent killer of people over the age of fifty. Emotional overeating is a serious disorder that needs to be treated. If an emotional eater does not receive treatment, this can lead to severe consequences. Many people have died from complications associated with emotional overeating. To overcome emotional overeating one must get to the root of the problem.  

If you do not get to the root of the problem you will never overcome emotional overeating. Several problems that cause emotional eating include childhood traumas, low self esteem, a poor body image, fears and insecurities.   One way to overcome emotional overeating is to keep a food diary. One should keep a food diary for one week and record all of the foods and beverages that are consumed on a daily basis. When you record what you eat or drink you should also record your feelings and thoughts. By recording your thoughts and feelings you should be able to pinpoint what causes episodes of emotional overeating.  Millions of people suffer from emotional overeating. There are skilled therapists and treatment centers that specialize in emotional overeating. If you are an emotional overeater it is important to seek help. This is a dangerous behavior that prevents one from living a healthy life. Chose a healthier and happier path by deciding to not participate in emotional overeating.
